But, antiques expert Eric Knowles, the star of BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, believes that some bits of memorabilia could be a worthwhile investment.

He said: “The majority will be worthless.

“It’s not something you invest in. It’s for a day in your life that you want to remember.

“However, if you can hang on to it for 150 years, your great, great, great grandchildren may reap the benefits if it’s a rare piece.

“It is a test of time.”
